City Experiences

Event Coordinator and Sales Intern

May 2021 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I love the team environment at City Experiences. Everyone truly works together to make our events and operations run smoothly both in office and on-site, and using our RESEPCT acronym, the team truly supports one another. I have been given many opportunities to grow both personally and professionally, and have always felt valued as an employee.

What I wish was different

Nothing - I loved this experience, that is why I have opted to extend what was originally a summer internship into the fall semester or school and this upcoming spring, becuase I have truly enjoyed my time here and love this job and my team.

Advice

Be prepared to work hard! Go above and beyond in your position and it will earn you the respect of your teammates and push you to grow in this role and get the most out of it. Putting on events can be a lot of work, and it is important to recognize the key role that every department plays in producing events and making them successful. Be prepared to stay organized and communicate often and clearly with other departments to ensure that you are pulling your weight and not making the jobs of other departments more difficult.

It is a great internship and I would recommend others to take the various other opportunities that come with the internships including the meet and greets and managerial promotions.

What I liked

I enjoyed making money, while learning more about the hospitality industry. I learned about different leadership roles in the hospitality field.

What I wish was different

I wish we were able to move around in positions. I also wish the hours I would work were told to me up front.

Advice

I would not do it again knowing the hour requirments. It was advertised 40 hours a week, but I worked nearly 60-70 hours, and no days off.
