About City of Minnetonka

Located in Hennepin County just eight miles west of Minneapolis, Minnetonka is a fully developed suburban community of just under 50,000 residents. Minnetonka is proud of its reputation as a city that preserves its natural resources—residents can enjoy 49 community parks, more than 81 miles of maintained sidewalks and trails and more than 1,000 acres of public open space, as well as natural scenery that includes mature trees, wetlands and prairies. While Minnetonka shares its name with the very popular Lake Minnetonka, the city of Minnetonka includes only one small bay of the lake – Gray’s Bay, which forms the headwaters of Minnehaha Creek.

Minnetonka is truly a special community, committed to open space, park land and wetland areas. Enjoy working in the natural setting of our city facilities with walking paths, ponds and creeks.

“I liked the hours of work, I worked from 6:30 am - 2:30 pm Monday through Friday. This meant I was working 40 hours a week, but on a schedule where I could still do a lot with my afternoons. I really enjoyed being outdoors and working with my hands. It was often hard and straining work, but it always felt rewarding. Most of what I did was cutting down diseased or invasive trees, or cutting back buckthorn on city trails. ”

“I loved working in a team environment. I was also able to take a leadership role and teach kids sports and organize events.”
