Youth worker
June - August 2018 • Worcester, MA
What I liked
Working with children
Working outside
Regular pay and hours
Training included developmental approaches, substance abuse/NARCAN, immigrant rights/ICE agents, and cultural inclusivity
Paid training (week long)
What I wish was different
Newer program and training wasn’t always entirely structured
Limited to 20 hours per week at some locations
Advice
Working with children doesn’t always go as planned; go with the flow, don’t be too detail oriented, and always practice kindness
