Columbia Steel Casting Co., Inc.

Facilities Engineering Intern

May 2019 • Portland, OR

What I liked

My internship with Columbia Steel has been fast-paced and very involved. The company allows interns to work on major projects and get a real sense of what a full-time engineer works on.

What I wish was different

I would like to have more experience with newer technology, but I think that Columbia Steel represents more of the average industry technology level.

Advice

Be ready to take on the full responsibility of an engineering position during the summer. It is an amazing opportunity to learn what your job will be like after graduation. After this experience, I can honestly say that I feel prepared and excited to graduate and start my career.

Product Engineering intern

April 2017 - June 2019 • Portland, OR

What I liked

I got to see all parts of the foundry operations and how Product engineers interact with different departments. I also honed my CAD skills and learned how to use laser scanning for product reverse engineering.

What I wish was different

I spent 95% of my time at a desk and I wish I had more reasons to get out of the office.

Advice

Just be open to learning from everyone not just other engineers, there are some many people with experiences you can learn from.
