Learning the job is very hands on, you start by shadowing another broker until you are able to answer the phones yourself. Brokering is very engaging when we are busy, and is really rewarding when you build relationships with other companies.
What I wish was different
I wish I would have been able to manage or help manage an account. Due to me being part time, I have limited functionality within the team. I am mostly selling freight to trucks. I don't have very many customer interactions, most of them are with truckers.
Advice
Organization is the key to success here. You have to establish systems that work for you prioritizing tasks. This job requires a lot of multi-tasking.
