I’m currently in the ROTC program at WSU, and so far the experience is enjoyable. The cadre, or seargants and officers who lead it, care about the program and the students they instruct. They also have a wide network of possibilities to get you a job or internship for your degree.
What I wish was different
Particularly nothing, your scholarship is a big part of your college experience and it might be a 3 year or 4 year, it’s just very nice to know what type and the planning for mine was uninformed and rushed, which definitely is a stressor for my freshman year.
Advice
If you think the military is something you want to do, but also want to spend some time on the civilian side of the world and network and do really well at the same time, go for army national guard. It’s not Active Duty, the chance of you getting deployed is nonexistent, and you’re still going to have a good time.

Nursing Cadet
May - July 2019 • Fort Sam Houston, TX
What I liked
I was in a level 1 trauma center with different preceptors in different departments learning more about my nursing career in the Army.
What I wish was different
It could have been longer
Advice
If you are thinking about joining the military as a nurse, look into this program and try ROTC out. Don’t accept any money unless you are 100% committed because you will have to pay back the money if you do not complete what is required in your contract
