Depaul USA

QuietFest Intern

June - August 2023 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I really liked the community at Depaul USA! I also really liked the fact that I was able to work on a music festival and gain experience in the music industry while working for a nonprofit that assits people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurities. It was a mix of gaining the experience I was looking for before I enter the music industry full time after graduation and planning an event that will help other people.

What I wish was different

There was some times during the internship that moved really slow. This was because sometimes during the internship theres a period of time where we are just waiting for a decision to be made or for a vendor to respond. This internship does require you to think about something that needs to be done and act on it instead of just waiting to be given an assignment. Its a good skill to learn however in the moment it was sometimes really difficult to have to pause what I was doing to wait for someone to make a decision on something. All together I think Depaul USA is a great place for an internship and really helps you develop your skills such as problem recognition and solving, communication skills, professional writing skills, and more.

Advice

This internship is very much an internship where you get out of it what you put into it. If you want to learn about something in this internship you need to initiate your interest in learning. This is not an internship where there is a set project you are going to be working on the whole time. The team at Depaul USA likes to assign tasks to people whos skill set best fits that task. If you wanted to learn more about the skills needed for a specific task the team is very open to talking through their process of completing a specific task and helping you learn how to do that task. You just need to put yourself out there and be willing to ask for help when you want or need it.
