I loved the hands on aspect of my job, working with kids in person and via telehealth was extremely fun and rewarding. I loved growing connections with my clients and watching them succeed and grow in areas they needed guidance with.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more opportunities to go in person for ABA sessions but I was primarily based in Tucson for a majority of the year so my clients were mainly telehealth when moved back to Phoenix for the summer.
Advice
One piece of advice I would give about this experience is that its important to establish exactly how much you are wanting to work and set boundaries for yourself - not just in this job but in any field.

Advice
I work in a group home for adults with intelluctual and developmental disabilities. My coworkers and I are tasked with creating a safe and positive environment for our clients. The most important thing that I have learned in my two years at Devereux is communication is key. My coworkers and I have to communicate constantly in order to plan events and provide the best care that we can. I also spend a lot of time talking with my clients, establishing friendships and providing emotional support. Some of my clients are deaf or non-verbal so we have to constantly come up with unique ways of connecting with all of our clients.
