Manufacturing Associate I

June - August 2021 • Mesa, AZ

What I liked

As a biomedical engineering major, this job really opened my eyes to the manufacturing process of a medical device and gave me a look from the inside of the process.

What I wish was different

I wished that I would have more responsibility and more thinking work to do. The job was simple and didn't need much thinking to do, I felt like wasted talent.

Advice

It is a very important time to go through and an essential experience for your future. take advantage of it and ask questions to learn and enrich your future.

What I liked

I like learning about upstream marketing since before my internship i only knew about downstream.

What I wish was different

Test Lab Intern

June 2019 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

Learned a lot about statistical analysis that was not touched upon in a classroom environment. Got to be apart of developing new set of experiments that had to follow FDA guidelines for hospital involvement. Everyone working here was very approachable and ready to answer any questions I had. Easy to meet people in separate departments and form connections. Great place to start with little industry experience.

What I wish was different

Wish there was more diverse lab experience, and more wet lab time in general. Wish I was paired with people my age so we could learn together.

Advice

Every experience is different depending on the department. My experience was completely unique as I came on-board during a time where the company wanted to expand into an entirely new market. That being said, Dexcom, which continues to grow rapidly, will offer experiences where an intern might be able to get to do more than a typical intern in a larger company.

Operations Engineering Intern

January 2019 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

My favorite thing about working at Dexcom is our product. I became an engineer to make a difference in people's lives. The CGM technology that Dexcom makes possible for its patients is amazing, and changes lives every day. I love knowing that all of my hard work is going towards a product so impactful.

What I wish was different

I started working at this internship part-time while I was in school, and then full-time during my summer break. Because I started part-time and this was my first internship experience, it was very challenging at the beginning learning how things worked and what to do. It would have been nice to have more of a structured orientation / intern program.

Advice

Overall, this company is great! They are growing so fast, and you will never be bored here. The product is great, and they treat their interns like real engineers. I am very appreciative to have my first internship be at a company like Dexcom!

iOS Software Engineer Intern

June 2019 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

What I like about Dexcom is that everyone is very friendly and helpful. This being my first internship, I was very intimidated and afraid of failing, I expressed to my manager my concerns and he was very compassionate and set time aside to make sure I felt at home. The project they assigned me was also super awesome and it was very relevant to the skills I wanted to improve, it seems as though they're very considerate about ensuring their interns really get the most out of their time here.

What I wish was different

I wish that there was a more formal internship program with more intern activities and that I was able to hang out and meet more interns. Everyone I work with in my department is great and welcoming. However, I would have loved to make more friendships with people closer to my age and hear about what they're doing in other departments since this company is so great and is providing good value to the people it serves.

Advice

Don't be nervous, just come in with an open mind and excited. People here are very nice and helpful, so make the best of this place and socialize with as many people as you can and you will learn a lot.

Mechanical Engineering Intern

June - August 2018 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

The teachings from my different mentors. The guidance they offered and the push they gave to me to do more. The experience and skills I picked up that are used in industry and that I can take with me in the future.

What I wish was different

Wish I'd got to know my manager better. I feel compared to the other interns, there was less non-business interaction between my supervisor and I. But with him being swamped with meetings, I can't blame him.

Advice

Go directly to your team members if you have questions. Emails are too slow in the office to get a quick reply. If you need help, get it from them.
