What I liked

The networking opportunity that came along working in a friendly environment. Throughout my time working here, I have encountered several customers that would speak to me about their job in the engineering field or their academic history.

What I wish was different

I wouldn't need anything to change, if anything were to change it would probably be for the worse. The store is doing just fine regarding the management, work environment, and the customer interaction.

Advice

For anyone wanting a part time job, working at Dillard's is a great option for a relaxing and social work experience. There are opportunities to grow from the company, either within or networking with clients.

What I liked

The people there were nice. I really enjoyed my coworkers. Pay was also good for a part time job.

What I wish was different

I wish it waasn't as understaffed and the hours were a bit more flexible.

Advice

Dock is probably the best place to work here, otherwise you're working for commision, and they'll let you go if you can't make your numbers. The people there are overall pretty nice and the dock really needs as many night guys as it can get. I't's not half as intimidating as the managers might try making it out to be so don't let them scare you, and they will work with your sceduel to some extent. If you need a good consistant job with consistant work hours they will try to work you 27.5 hours a week every week, sometimes they will work you more on holidays. They can give you less if you ask, but they don't like doing that because they really need the people.

What I liked

I liked the employees I worked with they were all really awesome. My department manager was really amazing and we ended up really good friends.

What I wish was different

The store manager was not fit for management. She didn't know how to manage the store efficiently and was more of a bully then anything. She always had people pulled into her office to tell them how terrible they were at their job and the employees always left her office crying and wanting to quit their job.

Advice

I would say working at Dillard would be a good experience as long as you don't work at the one in Saint George Utah. It is important to pick a job where you are wanted and respected.

visual merchandise intern

What I liked

I really enjoyed the people I worked with, as well as how much they valued having an intern at their store. They let me travel to the buying office for a day so I got to explore different aspects of retailing. I got to meet the Dillard family as well as other district and regional managers.

What I wish was different

I wish it would have been more structured. I was their first intern at that location so it wasn't as planned out as I wished. I completed all of my objectives for my internship I just would have to remind my managers to help me get them done.

Advice

If you really want an internship somewhere and they don't have applications available online, pick up the phone and call them and talk to someone in HR. It show initiative and interest in the position and company.
