I worked on the memory care side of the Assisted Living home. I loved getting to know each resident's background and interests. Working with Alzheimer's patients is a passion of mine and this job gave me the opportunity for more hands on experience. I loved my coworkers and the working environment they created.
What I wish was different
There were things the home could not do because of Covid. Many of the activities and games had to be cancelled until things calmed down. I wish the residents still had some opportunity to interact outside of meals and personal conversations.
Advice
I would say you have to be comfortable with yourself and your ability to make judgments about a resident's behavior. It is part of the job to be able to calm them and work through situations with them.
