I had the opportunity to assist with the expansion of the Reproductive Health Access Project (RHAP), a program that offers free sexual health services to teens 14-20. I enjoyed ample autonomy in my work with RHAP, which consisted primarily of community partnership development. I also had the privilege of working hands-on with the teen clients that RHAP serves, both in clinical and community settings.
What I wish was different
I loved this internship, and I wish I could have continued working with RHAP after the summer. However, due to longstanding commitments with other organizations, I have had to take a hiatus from my involvement with El Rio. I wish I could have pursued this internship after I graduated, but this was not possible through my program.
Advice
Never hesitate to communicate--with your boss, coworkers, or community members. Asking questions, mindfully encouraging feedback, and reflecting on results are the keys to quality, sustainable partnership development.

What I liked
Everything. The environment, the people, and most of all the contribution given to our community. This place is changing people's lives.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more time to take up all the opportunities there!
Advice
Do it all! If you're doubting helping out in a certain program or volunteer at all, I recommend it fully. Put yourself out there, you'll meet phenomenal people.
