Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

K-12 Summer Outreach Teacher

May - August 2019 • Daytona Beach, FL

What I liked

It was very structured and organized. The children I taught ranged from 6 to 17 and it was a very big learning experience for me.

What I wish was different

The scheduling of some of the classes with preparations were a bit challenging.

Advice

Learn to adapt and remember every child learns differently .

Summer Programs Coordinator

May - August 2019 • Prescott, AZ

What I liked

The experience of talking to future students that may join the Riddle Family as well as meeting other students at Riddle who became your co-workers.

What I wish was different

The work hours would be more per person. There seemed to be times that no one was scheduled for the week due to the amount of people being hired. It's nice to have a lot of people. Higher wage, get paid at minimum as a regular coordinator.

Advice

Have patience. You will deal with middle school-high school students who are still in that stage of being conceited, bratty, etc.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

January 2022 • Daytona Beach, FL

What I liked

The research has been fun and interesting. The exact assignment changes from time to time, and there's a lot of nuance in the work itself. You even get to set your own schedule, fit your work in where you have the time.

What I wish was different

No hour cap, but that's a university rule (and a completely understandable one).

Advice

Don't be afraid to take your time, ensure quality over quantity. The nuance in the research data can take some time to work through.

Student Researcher

October 2018 • Prescott, AZ

What I liked

I enjoyed the many opportunities that arose when I began my research position. I was able to participate in several conferences, publish papers, and grow my network all the while receiving funding from the university. On top of the university support, the mentors work with the students to make it an amazing experience. Embry-Riddle has one of the best support systems (in my opinion) for undergraduate researchers.

What I wish was different

I would only wish for more time. Working while having a full class load made research difficult to advance. I would recommend doing research during breaks or through the summer.

Advice

Pursue any opportunity you can for undergraduate research, it will always lead you to something new!

Associate Campus Director

February 2019 • Offutt Afb, NE

What I liked

I really enjoy seeing the excitement in students when they sign up for class for the first time and when they graduate. There are many great times in between but those are the most memorable. Every person at Embry-Riddle is awesome and extremely helpful, I have yet to meet one person that I do not like or do not get along with, it is an absolute pleasure to work here. They also have great benefits and retirement packages.

What I wish was different

I wish my colleague and partner did not have to retire. Great guy.

Advice

If you have never done this job before the biggest take away is attention to detail, and there is a steep learning curve. It is manageable and the people that work at ERAU are amazing so nothing to worry about, as ERAU has a great support network for any issue you may encounter.

Conference assistant

June - August 2019 • Daytona Beach, FL

What I liked

Inviting work environment, the housing department had a very welcoming staff and is a generally nice place to work.

What I wish was different

Employees were never informed of their tasks ahead of time. If we finished one task and our supervisor was not available we would have to wait for them to be free.

Advice

Communication within the team is crucial to good work flow.
