Interning for Emcor Services Mesa Energy allowed me to see many different aspects of HVAC design and implementation. The company gave me the option to design my own summer schedule, so I was able to spend 2 weeks in each department. Through this structure, I was able to learn graphic production, perform procurement, observe sales & estimation, follow field technicians, and lastly, shadow a project manager.
What I wish was different
I wish there had more interns. I was one of two interns, and I wish there had been more of a community of interns to experience the summer with.
Advice
Get to know as many people you can in the office. The building is split; one half focused on sales and administration, and the other on engineering and project management. It is easy to stay on the engineering half, but you would miss out on a fantastic networking opportunity.

What I liked
The size of Emcor Services Mesa Energy made the summer very diverse. Since I was allowed to build my own schedule for the internship, I was able to involve myself with many different aspects of HVAC work. I suspect that not many other HVAC companies are able to offer experience to their interns in digital design, graphic production, panel construction, field repairs, project management, and sales. This diverse workload really stood out to me, and is the focal point of why I would recommend this company to other students of the industry.
