What I liked

At EGI Inc. I enjoyed being part of several product development and sustaining engineering projects that have led me to gain a great variety of applicable engineering skills. From 3D modelling and rapid prototyping to cost savings and engineering change requests, I was pleased at having the opportunity to experience each part of a product's life cycle. One example of a project I worked on was the design, modelling, and drafting of a testing stand for products tested on-location. I researched the required components, consulted with full-time employees, and had my design reviewed before finalization. Being able to work through the development process on my own, but with the assistance of my coworkers available was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

What I wish was different

During my internship, I appreciated the opportunity to work on various projects, which was a valuable learning experience. I am also appreciative of the guidance I was given by my co-workers and supervisor. However, I do wish that there had been clearer project assignments with well-defined objectives and expectations, specifically for projects that were experimental in nature. I also wish that I had more opportunities to work on or experience things such as presentations, reports, and conference calls.

Advice

Embrace every opportunity to work on diverse projects, as it enhances your skills and understanding of different aspects and disciplines of engineering. Seek out mentorship and guidance from people coming from a range of backgrounds; their insights will be invaluable to your growth. Don't hesitate to ask questions and engage with your project's team, as a collaborative environment fosters creativity and knowledge sharing. Lastly, always be proactive, take initiative, and approach challenges with enthusiasm, as it will leave a positive impression and make the most of your internship experience.
