Talent Management Intern

January - April 2023 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

- Everyone is super talented at what they do, awesome to work with, and lifts each other up! Talent management can sometimes get really repetitive with emails and the like, but everyone on the team genuinely cares about treating their actors right and puts in the time and attention to detail to keep everything going smoothly. - Shoutout to Alyss for being an AMAZING supervisor and always being so flexible, especially with working around my crazy school schedule, THANK YOU! - Everyone on the team is insanely busy, but ALWAYS down to just have a chat with you whether it's questions about how to do certain tasks or even just to talk about the industry (as long as you communicate with them ahead of time, of course). I really appreciated their openness and genuine desire to help the interns out in any way they could. - One thing that really stuck out to me is when me and another intern had our Day 1 onboarding meeting with Sean. Sean immediately asked for our pronouns, and the other intern (who was nonbinary) and I talked separately afterwards about how much they appreciated it and how rare it still is to have a CEO ask those kinds of questions. It's small things like that that really made me believe that these people care and that they'll continue to see success in the future! Thank you Sean, you're awesome! :) - They give you lots of different projects to work on on top of your daily tasks, so it really teaches you how to constantly stay on your toes when working in entertainment!

What I wish was different

Days were quite long (9 hours twice a week with a lunch break). I did have two days in my weekly class schedule with only one 1-hr class, so I was able to fit it all in, but it was still a bit crazy to go back and forth between everything. Thankfully, the internship being remote made things a lot easier to manage than if it were all in person! Maybe in the future, break up intern shifts into night and day shifts?

Advice

time management, Time Management, TIME MANAGEMENT. This internship requires constant attention, so staying organized is absolutely crucial to succeeding. As long as you stay organized, follow directions, and show the team that you're wiling to learn from your mistakes and keep getting better, you're golden!

Advice

This company was very unprofessional. I was accepted as a Talent Management Intern for them for the summer of 2021. I had applied for the position and received the internship offer. My college has a program where I can apply for funding if I have an unpaid internship. Because Ent Lab's internship is unpaid, I emailed Ent Lab throughout March and April of 2021 asking for an official offer email with the required info I needed to apply for funding. It required my name, my supervisor's name, my start date, the internship's location, and an explicit statement that the internship was unpaid. I emailed them several times to no response. As the deadline for the funding came up, I called Ent Lab asking for the offer email/offer letter. The next morning, I received an email saying that I was asking for too much "required documentation, more than any other intern had asked for before," and so my internship was terminated before it even began. I would not recommend working for a company who is so unprofessional in their communication and disrespects their employees in this way.
