Data Analyst Intern

May - August 2021 • Erie, PA

What I liked

The culture was very friendly and welcoming. I was given a real project to work on over the summer and people were excited to see it completed. I also got to learn new programs and programming languages that I don't have at my school.

What I wish was different

It would have been nice if I had more input on my project and choosing what it could be, but I was still happy with the project I got.

Advice

Use your resources! Everyone is friendly so if you find yourself stumped on something, don't be afraid to reach out.

Advice

Overall a good experience at a Fortune 500 company. They always have a lot of interns and fun activities throughout the summer. I was apprehensive at first but Erie is actually a cool place to live.

Software Engineer Intern

May 2018 • Erie, PA

What I liked

Erie welcomed me into a very accepting environment. I always felt like an important member of the team, and I feel that the experience I've gained will stick with me throughout the rest of my career.

What I wish was different

As a Computer Science student, I wish I had more time to explore other parts of ERIE's IT department. I spent all of my summer in the IT Finance department, and while I consider the experience valuable, I wish I had more a little bit more exposure.

Advice

Try not to feel discouraged when your responsibilities go a little over your head. ERIE is noticeably committed to ensuring their employees have the know-how and the resources to complete assignments. They are very deliberate in where they place employees based on their skill sets, so you only need to reach out when things become difficult.

IT Intern

May - August 2018 • Erie, PA

What I liked

I really liked the corporate environment and the people at the company. I know Erie Insurance does not have a lot of turnaround, as their employees tend to stay there a long time.

What I wish was different

I wish they would have had more opportunities for me. A lot of the time, I did not have a lot of work to do. However, each department is different, as I know other people who had a lot of work to do all the time.

Advice

Be open to new experiences if you go here for their IT internship. A lot of the people who took IT internships here did not have any prior IT experience, so almost everyone was brand new at what they were doing. There is a learning curve, but most people are doing well within a few days. They are willing to listen to you and find you things to do that you like.
