Erie Sports Commission

Marketing Intern

September 2019 • Erie, PA

What I liked

I really enjoyed the people. They are willing to help and do a lot for you. They’ll buy you lunch a few times and make an effort to get to know you. You also learn some skills that will be valuable if you want to get into the sports/business/marketing world. No matter how small the task, all experience is good experience. You’ll get to know what you like and don’t like.

What I wish was different

Obviously it would be nice if you got hourly pay, but they find other ways to compensate you if you do a good job.

Advice

Keep working hard, and don’t get complacent. Don’t get discouraged because you don’t get paid. If you work hard, these people could be the ones who refer you to your next job. If you stop working hard and get lazy, they’ll recognize that and may not give your future potential employer a good review. Also, be open to all things. Everything you learn could possibly give you the experience you need to get a future job.
