Ernst & Young LLP Canada

Consulting intern

March - July 2021 • Shanghai, People's Republic of China

What I liked

it was a great experience to improve my abilities in the future workplace. The group I work on is the Ernst & Young Material Group, The client company needs to improve the company’s information system and the unified subsidiary companies. During the 4 months I worked, my team needed to analyze the current situation of the client’s company and formulate improvement plans and solutions. I liked how we worked as a group, every time my group have a meeting with a client company to conduct research, I make a summary of the meeting to record the problems and solutions summarized in each meeting. After the team has analyzed and discussed the plan, I am mainly responsible for drawing a flowchart to introduce the solution to the customer. After confirming the solution with the client, I participated in writing the blueprint report for the client's reference.

What I wish was different

After four months of designing and improving the solution, we finally determined the final solution with the customer and started to implement the new system development. During this precious internship, I also gained a lot of personal skills. For example, my ability to organize data has been greatly improved. When dealing with a lot of huge data, I can analyze and organize it more conveniently. In addition, drawing flowcharts and writing project blueprints are tasks that I have never touched before, so this also exercises my ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced work.

Advice

I would say fast-learning is very important for most of work, it's the best chance to involve in a fast-paced work environment.

FSO Assurance Intern

June - August 2019 • Richmond, VA

What I liked

I was able to learn a lot on how to apply what I was learning in my accounting classes. We also got to participate in several networking events like a leadership conference in Orlando, a barbeque with the partners in our office, and billiards with the whole FSO team. My favorite part was how welcoming everyone was. The FSO staff members and interns all played volleyball each Wednesday, and this was such a fun way to get to know my co-workers outside of the office.

What I wish was different

I wish the time frame had been different because we ended after the first week of August. I feel that a week or two more could have helped because I was finally getting the flow of how to use their system, and gaining confidence on starting and completing task on my own.

Advice

My advice would be to apply for every position. This job was a long shot for me, but I submitted my resume and prepared very well for my interviews and it paid off. I would also say treat your internship like its your real job, because with that kind of work ethic can lead to gaining a full time offer at the end.
