ETS/Educational Testing Service

AP Resolutions Specialist

May - August 2021 • Ewing Township, NJ

What I liked

I liked the fact that the hours were set and I liked the pay.

What I wish was different

I wish that my schedule would have been more consistent, I was supposed to work 40 hours a week but I would get sent home early for completing my work fast.

Advice

I would make sure to bring headphones and listen to your leaders. The work is very repetitive so take your times and stretch your hands because they might hurt after the work you do.

Intern

May - June 2018 • Princeton, NJ

What I liked

My supervisor and coworkers were all easy to work with. I developed friendships and great work experience overall. I learned how to utilize Microsoft Word and Excel for daily reports, learned a new computer software specific to the type of work I was placed into, and polished my problem solving skills with troubleshooting errors. There were also all kinds of students in different majors working alongside me. I believe the experience you gain in this internship is applicable to all kinds of majors, work fields and even life in general. I didn't stay in one location. I was in Princeton, NJ for training, but for the actual work, the company flies you out to other sites across the country and reimburses for transportation, hotel, and dining.

What I wish was different

I wish a greater variety of scenarios would be simulated during training. There are some situations that cannot be emulated and only makes sense on site, however, I would have appreciated if more of the regularly occurring issues and errors were explained a bit more in detail.

Advice

Do not be intimidated by the work itself. It may seem overwhelming during training, but on site, you are really able to learn the processes very quickly and it also trains you to work under pressure. Have fun! When it's time to work, it is intense, but many friendships and networks can be developed during this internship.

Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Intern

June - July 2018 • Princeton, NJ

What I liked

This was my second summer at ETS, so I was already familiar with the company. I truly enjoyed my experience there. I worked on the National Indian Education Study (NIES), which is a part of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). I was able to do qualitative research and broaden my skillset. In the previous year, I worked with quantitative data. I had the opportunity to travel to D.C. and present my research project to the NIES Technical Review Panel.

What I wish was different

I wouldn't change anything about my experiences with ETS. They're a great company and I had amazing mentors.

Advice

I would advise anyone interested in working with ETS to come in with an open mind. There's so much more to the company than testing. Networking is also a huge part of the experience there. Meet as many people as possible. Everyone is so nice and always willing to talk about their work.
