Excela Health

Patient Service Associate

July 2021 • Greensburg, PA

What I liked

getting experience in the healthcare field before I graduate this spring

What I wish was different

I would have started earlier so I could have longer experience

Advice

Do not be afraid to put yourself in an entry level position, especially if it is before graduation. It is so important to gain experience and it will help you learn things that you like and dislike in the work environment.

Certified Surgical Technologist

June 2019 • Greensburg, PA

What I liked

I liked the job itself! I loved being in the Operating Room and that is where I am looking to stay with my further education I am receiving from Seton Hill.

What I wish was different

I wish they could've kept me in the OR while going to school.

Advice

If you are looking to get into the medical field, I would suggest to go shadow the job you are looking to get into because it is important to see what they are actually doing to make sure you enjoy that job is actually what you want to do.

customer service liaison

June 2018 - August 2019 • Greensburg, PA

What I liked

I loved my coworkers at the call center and the set schedule every week.

What I wish was different

Honestly, I wish that patients had a little more respect for the people who schedule their appointments.

Advice

You can't take anything personally if you are working in customer service. Some people are just rude and nasty and you have to let it roll right off of you or you're going to be miserable in any job working with the public.

Technical Partner

June 2018 - August 2019 • Latrobe, PA

What I liked

I enjoyed helping my patients. The smile that I got when they improved on their daily living skills after an injury or stroke or surgery, was absolutely priceless. It makes you feel really good when you can make an impact on someone’s life the way that I was able to.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to keep the job when I moved to Slippery Rock. The distance and amount of time I was required to work was too difficult to juggle with school work.

Advice

If you have the opportunity to care for elderly patients, and even middle aged or younger patients, take it! You can learn so much about life from those people.

Digital Marketing Intern

January 2018 • Greensburg, PA

What I liked

What I like about my internship with Excela is that I get real hands on experience. With Excela I got to hold entire projects, and have actual responsibilities.

What I wish was different

The one thing I wish I could do is be there more actually, but that is more on my part because of my schedule. Being there more often provides the chance to take on even more projects and gain more experience.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is not to be intimated by the workload. At first it can be scary to hear the size of projects you will work on, but you get the hang of things.
