Startup Intern

January - May 2021 • Quincy, MA

What I liked

Flexible schedule and great team to work with. Because it is a startup, the responsibilities are very diverse, in addition to learning a lot about the inner workings of the company. Also interesting to work very closely with the employees, in addition to the weekly speaker series.

What I wish was different

While this is out of their control, the remote/virtual setting due to COVID-19 limited the depth of the internship, but I do believe that an in-person internship would solve this.

Advice

To take on tasks in different fields, as working at a startup allows you to do so.

Design Intern

January - May 2021 • Quincy, MA

What I liked

I loved the team, the individuals I worked with made it very easy for me to adapt to the remote only functionality of this internship. I learned a lot about the fundamentals of what it means to be a true start up company as many things related to and non-related to Designing were learned. eCS gives a lot of value to their employees and it was much appreciated.

What I wish was different

I really wish there was in person meetings as we had them weekly however due to COVID-19 this was prevented. Another factor I wish was difference was the overall scope of the internship, it steered many different directions and I personally wanted to specialize in a certain topic vs scattering my workload out.

Advice

Take advantage of the connections you make during your time as an intern, Sully and Shun have a tremendous network of professionals that come and speak during our weekly meetings, some of which have made an impact on me personally.

Design intern

January - May 2021 • Boston, MA

What I liked

eCS is the early stage Startup, which means what you design and make is really applies to real work. You can have ownership of your work as much as you want. eCS also support and care about your career a lot, and invite professionals regularly to talk about their career path and tips.

What I wish was different

Everything was remote, so it's been a bit hard to feel connected. Plus, it was an unpaid role. Money is usually the matter😁. But I hope things will change soon.

Advice

If you want to wear many hats and train your skills in the wild industry, you find a good place here. Sully and Shun are really giving freedom to you and endure during you find the right path!

Engineering Intern

January - May 2021 • Boston, MA

What I liked

The work I did at ezCybersecurity Systems felt meaningful and taught me many things about software engineering. I had lots of freedom (and responsibility) about how I chose to approach the tasks assigned to me, but I also always had the opportunity to ask for help or advice. Sully and Shun were very approachable via Slack or other platforms and expressed their desire to receive any feedback I had since the very beginning of the internship.

What I wish was different

Getting more frequent, precise feedback on the work I was producing in addition to the weekly check-ins each intern had would have been very helpful.

Advice

I would recommend working here if you want to learn by having responsibility and agency about how to solve the tasks given to you.

Software Engineering Intern

June 2020 • Boston, MA

What I liked

Great leadership and staff. A lot of focus on building the interns knowledge and understanding around the development and growth of a product into a company. Great care given to explaining the nuances of the product technically (in a software capacity) and the progress on building product-market fit.

What I wish was different

Wish I could spend more time working closely with the company in person but COVID-19 prevented that.

Advice

If you want hands on experience with a startup , this is a great young company to be a part of.
