The flexibility it gives me to focus on my schoolwork and also work on projects that are giving me experience in my career path. My supervisor has been amazing and she is always there to answer questions and help me understand where I need help, it has been a great experience overall.

What I liked
This internship was an amazing experience. I got to work with some great people who have inspired me to keep fighting for families in every facet of my life. The research was interesting and fun to do. I was never bored since there is so much to get done and although the topics were occasionally heavy, it was a joy to feel like I was changing lives with it.
What I wish was different
Although being online is very flexible and worked really well with my schedule, I would have loved to do an in person internship. I got to attend a conference and that really helped me open my eyes to what great people are involved in maintaining a word that is centered on families.
Advice
This internship was a very independent experience. It required personal commitment to working everyday and good organization and research skills. Sometimes it felt like we were trying to find a needle in a haystack. However, it always worked out in the end.

What I liked
I liked that this internship was a remote internship that was flexible with my daily schedule. I had other classes, a part-time job, and my family of 7 that I still took care of during the semester, so it was extremely helpful that I could fulfill my intern hours throughout the day when it worked for me. Karen was always available when I needed further assistance to understand what I needed to do. She loved answering my questions and teaching me the ropes.
What I wish was different
I really loved everything about this internship. There is nothing I would want to have changed.
Advice
I read the other reviews about this internship to assess whether it would work with my schedule. I am so glad I chose this one. The other reviewers were spot on with hitting a learning curve (a lot of acronyms!), but all I had to do was call Karen, and she was so willing and eager to answer my questions. Calling and asking Karen to clarify what I needed to be doing was a joy. She never made me feel silly for needing help to navigate what she needed. I would take this internship over others if I had to make the choice again.

What I liked
I loved the flexibility of this internship. I was able to set my own schedule, and hold myself accountable for making sure I put in enough hours of work each week. I also really liked feeling like I was helping advocate for children and families, even if it was in a small way. It was fun to learn about how Family Watch International makes a difference. Working with Karen was great too. She was encouraging and helped me understand my assignments and projects.

Advice
Don't be afraid to ask questions! There is a lot to learn at the beginning, and the best way to learn it all is to ask questions. Even after you get into a rhythm and know how to do the work, ask more questions. Completing an internship is a great time to learn as much as you can, and Karen is incredible at helping you understand and grow.

What I liked
Family Watch International has offered me so many opportunities to learn different aspects of research, presentation formats, and working as a team. FWI is such an important organization in today's society to help protect family and children rights. Karen is especially wonderful and a great leader and teacher. I learned so much from her and I am so glad I have gotten to work under her this last year and a half.

Advice
Learn as much as you can while you have this opportunity! Working with FWI can open you up to learning about different school curriculums, understanding different country customs and policies, and understanding government "jargon." Really, this is an amazing opportunity!

What I liked
I loved working with Family Watch International! Karen is the best at helping you understand what your role is and helping with anything you need. I learned a lot about the role of Family Watch in the United Nations and how to better research particular topics. I was able to work remotely and it was very flexible with my busy schedule. I also feel that I am now more knowledgeable in where to find information that will be beneficial not only in a career, but in my own family.
What I wish was different
I can't really think of anything that could be different in terms of the organization. It can be hard to understand certain terms and policies in the beginning, but Karen is always willing to help!
Advice
The internship was flexible which was amazing! I would recommend being consistent in your hours to make sure that you are still on track. Some of the work you do takes time and isn't necessarily the most enjoyable of tasks, but if you think of it in terms of how you can grow there is so much potential!

What I liked
Family Watch is a great organization to intern with because they provide a lot of experiences for learning and growth at your own pace. My supervisor Karen has been so patient with me and she is always willing to answer questions and work around my busy schedule. I feel that I have become a lot more educated on family topics in the time that I have interned here, and I have more confidence in researching and discussing topics that are generally considered sensitive. I highly recommend applying for an internship with Family Watch.
What I wish was different
There was a bit of a learning curve when I first began because I didn't know a lot of the terms and organizations that I was researching, but I was able to pick it up fast with the help of my supervisor. I can't think of anything that I wish had been different.
Advice
The advice I would give for anyone starting an internship with Family Watch is to continuously assess where you can grow and improve throughout your internship. I set goals for myself each week for what I wanted to do better on and I found that I was able to get more out of the projects and research. The mindset you have really makes a difference in your experience.
