The work that I did included a lot of really cool experiences. I got the chance to fly out to Portland, Oregon to do a week of bridge inspections. I also got to spend a week in Lacrosse, Wisconsin to inspect an arch and a truss bridge over the Mississippi River.
What I wish was different
There was a bit of down time. With inspection work, there is a lot of waiting for different contracts to come in. Because of this, there were occasionally days that there was little work to do.
Advice
Say yes to every offer of more work to do. Every thing that you do with this job is slightly different and it all teaches you something new. From the little things such as drawing a pin support in Microstation, to big things such as going up in a lift to inspect a bridge, it is all good experience to have.
