FleishmanHillard

Undergraduate Public Relations Intern

June - August 2019 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

The real-life experiences gained. I wasn't just an intern, I was a temporary employee working on real accounts with real clients.

What I wish was different

This was a personal issue, but I commuted from Frisco into Dallas. With traffic, it took about an hour and a half both ways. I definitely learned that I either want to commute via public transportation or live close to my permanent job.

Advice

Listen and absorb everything they tell you. This is such a great experience and if like me, you do it before your senior year, you will enter into your final PR classes, like campaigns, with some really tangible work and knowledge.

Public Relations Intern

June - August 2018 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I liked the relationships that I built between my intern class as well as the employees of the company. I also learned a lot about being more attentive to my work and how to manage my workload to get things done in an appropriate amount of time.

What I wish was different

I wish it was more structured for interns that aren't assigned to one department, but are considered floaters. Some times I don't have any work to do and would struggle to find a task, even after reaching out to multiple people asking them for tasks.

Advice

Reach out to people and make connections with people outside of your practice group. Also know what amount of work you can handle. It's okay to say no to something that someone asks you if you know that you can't add that to your workload. You know what you can and can't handle.

PR intern

July - September 2017 • Shanghai, China

What I liked

The laid-back atmosphere there makes me feel like I am real PR person. Moreover, it taught me a lot of things that I cannot never learn from the classroom.

What I wish was different

I wish that there could be more interactions with co-workers. But everyone was so busy doing their stuff.
