Florida Power & Light

Electrical Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Miami, FL

What I liked

Intern events were great for meeting people. Company seemed very well organized. Felt like I was doing important assignments

What I wish was different

I wish I had been paired up with another intern. This would have made adjusting to full time work easier and also would have allowed me to have communication with someone of similar experience.

Advice

Ask many questions to your superiors. They have much more experience and are eager to share that knowledge.

Power Distribution Engineer

May - August 2019 • Naples, FL

What I liked

FPL has a strong will thought out internship program. They try to provide students with a hands on experience that allows them to learn with employees and do real work.

What I wish was different

I wished a had a clear idea of what I was going to be doing before starting the internship.

Advice

I loved my internship with FPL. I believe reason I enjoyed it so much was because I connected with my coworkers. Therefore, suggest that you ask a lot of questions and be brave enough to talk to your employees and other interns around you.

What I liked

-good pay -fun intern activities -great work environment -I was treated like an employee and not an intern

What I wish was different

I would have liked to try out more positions within the company.

Advice

The more you give as an intern the more you get out of it.

Protection and Controls Engineer

May - August 2018 • Ormond Beach, FL

What I liked

The pay was great and the company as a whole was open about their values and priorities, such as safety. The internship offered a keen insight into a working life at Florida Power and Light.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more individual, more structured work. Roughly half of the days I would spend out in the field shadowing but when I was back at the office there was little work (even busy work) to be done and those days were monotonous.

Advice

Go in prepared to learn. This is a great opportunity to understand so much about the field. At the end of the day, you only get back what you’re willing to put in.
