Myself and the other interns were given on site housing, which allowed us to form a community together. I had many opportunities to experience aspects of Fossil Rim beyond my department through Intern Talks and shadowing other departments on days off. My supervisor welcomed me warmly and immediately treated me as a fellow team member. I was given responsibilities on par with that of a full employee.
What I wish was different
I wish I had been able to stay longer. Also, providing several work days to shadow would have been beneficial. I was not able to shadow each department because I had errands or work projects I had to complete on many of my days off.
Advice
Stretch yourself. I chose to go to a location a 14 hour drive from from my family and a 22 hour drive from Marquette. It was a daunting situation as I walked in, but it was an experience I will be forever thankful for.
