What I liked

I have had a lot of space to grow in this position. My supervisor has encouraged me to take on projects that excite me and I have had opportunities to lead campus-wide events.

What I wish was different

I wish my supervisor had a little more time to devote to me. I also wish I had been paid a little more for my work, as I definitely have devoted my heart and soul to the position.

Advice

If anyone is interested in serving a University in the Student Affairs realm, this position successfully prepares a student intern to serve and understand how to work in a University setting.

McNair Research Assistant

What I liked

I liked getting a chance to work with Gannon faculty. I learned a lot about graduate school through the McNair program. I got a chance to build community with fellow researchers. I gained valuable knowledge about the research process at university's.

What I wish was different

I would have appreciated a clearer understanding of what my responsibilities within the program were.

Advice

If you want to go to grad school, apply for the McNair program, it's super helpful.

biology department worker

What I liked

I had a flexible schedule, my boss was very reasonable and a team player. I got to work close with some of the biology faculty. I was rarely stuck behind a desk, and I knew what I was doing mattered.

What I wish was different

I wish I had started sooner.

Advice

You get out what you put in. Some of the jobs I did were a bit tedious, but when they were done correctly the first time, they didn’t have to be done again.

McNair Scholars Research Assistant

What I liked

I loved doing research with my chosen mentor, and how flexible the schedule given was. We were given many extra benefits like housing and food which helped cut down costs.

What I wish was different

That we could have gotten to choose our roommates and rooms.
