Georgia State Games

Volunteer Coordinator

June - August 2020 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

Flexible work schedule & they assigned research projects based on your interests and major.

What I wish was different

The internship was organized very well but due to COVID, we were unable to host in person sporting events and get involved with the community. I wish that was different but it is understandable that it wasn't possible.

Advice

Only volunteer yourself if you are ready to commit the time and if you are willing to be very detailed and thorough with the projects. Make sure you are someone who can meet deadlines and communicate effectively especially since everything is online and a lot more difficult in many aspects to ask questions and get real time feedback. The organization was very flexible with the interns if they saw that you were putting forth the effort.

Public Relations Intern

May - August 2020 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

The way the Georgia State Games formatted this internship was very virtually friendly. They stayed organized throughout the process, and their level of constant communication made the process all the more enjoyable.

What I wish was different

While the Internship was fun, I wish there would have been more opportunities to meet with fellow interns, perhaps, in smaller groups on Zoom. We had a weekly meeting including about 100 of us, and that did not allow us to interact much.

Advice

Communication is key! If I had asked questions earlier, I would have been able to clear up any potential issues I may have had working on my project later.
