The Good Neighbor Center has been keeping families together and safe since 1999. Located in Tigard, Oregon, GNC operates a 54-bed emergency shelter that can house up to nine families at a time. Each family gets a private room along with three healthy meals per day, after school and summer childcare that allows parents to seek or maintain employment and long-term housing, and the case management services needed to help residents get back on their feet long term.
We have a small staff and are supported by a large community of volunteers from local groups, churches, and businesses, to families, organizations, schools, interns, and court mandated community service participants who are onsite, in varying capacities, every day and night of the year. Our internship program works with college and university students in their semester before graduation working on various projects and developing professional skills while gaining experience in preparation for entering the workforce or continuing education.
