Grace Adventures

Camp Counselor

June - July 2018 • Mears, MI

What I liked

I loved the opportunity to speak truth and wisdom into the lives of children and adolescent students. Working with them, teaching them about Jesus, and watching the Lord work them in unbelievable ways at camp were so fulfilling. Being able to sit down with each camper and learn about their lives and their personal stories was honestly so humbling and eye-opening, I adored every second of it.

What I wish was different

My arrival day. I drove 2 hours early in the morning to get to camp for training, and I barely showed up just before staff training started. It would have been nice if I was offered the option to travel the evening before so that I had time to adjust and settle in. The abrupt rush into training really shook me up the first couple of days because I was so overwhelmed.

Advice

It is not about you. The campers and their well-being come first, always, no matter what the situation. Look at camp as not another week of exhausting work, but another week of opportunities to give kids the most unforgettable experience of their lives.

Adventure Staff

May - August 2018 • Mears, MI

What I liked

The staff and safe environment was inviting and encouraged growth in all aspects of my life.

What I wish was different

I wish the job itself paid more, but for one summer, the experience and relationships that were made was payment enough.

Advice

When going into a camp job, do not set expectations; come in with a fresh, clear mind, and be open to any opportunity. This will allow maximum gain from the experience, and ensure a fun and enjoyable time while you are working.
