GRAEF

Construction Inspection Intern

July - August 2020 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

I really enjoyed my time working for GRAEF as it was a good learning opportunity for me in order to learn more about the construction process in both roadway and bridge construction. I enjoyed being out in the field and being able to make a difference directly in the construction process.

What I wish was different

I wish that the internship could have gone for the entire summer, my start date was pushed back from June 1st to July 6th due to COVID-19.

Advice

It was a really good experience to have as it helped me gain field experience and prepared me for the professional workforce after graduation. I would be happy to work for them next summer and potentially fulltime after my graduation.

Mechanical Engineer Intern

April 2019 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

I like that I get to work right with the other engineers on projects and I'm not just tossed the typical intern-type busy work. They make me feel valued as an employee and a real part of the team. My team members have all been great to work with and are extremely helpful with teaching me new skills and information.

What I wish was different

I wish I knew a little more in advance what projects I would be working on so that I can know exactly who to go to for work.

Advice

When accepting the role, I did not know exactly what the work I would be doing would look like. I'm glad I kept an open mind going in because it allowed me to figure out what I like to work on and what kind of projects are most interesting to me. I would recommend to anyone that they should also go in with this mindset, and be excited to see what kind of things they get to learn each day.
