Micah Corps Intern

May - July 2017 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

About my internship: I researched market-based solutions to issues of food insecurity across the conference territory. After working with individuals who face food insecurity on a daily basis, as well as organizations that are working to combat the injustice, I complied oral and written presentations on the topic. Over the course of the summer, the group of interns lived in community and traveled across Nebraska, Kansas, and to Washington DC in order to develop church programs and educate others about solutions to social justice. What I liked: I had freedom to research my own topic in the way that I wanted. I absolutely love economics so I got to approach social justice from a market structure because that is what I was passionate about. I also got to live in community! I worked and traveled with a group of 10 interns across the conference territory and even worked on capitol Hill for a week.

What I wish was different

Many of the students in the internship are like minded. Thats not necessarily an issue, but something to be aware of.

Advice

Think critically and outside the box. There are stereotypical ways of approaching social justice, but carry the knowledge you learned in class. Also, make a tool kit or some physical representation of your research and findings to bring back to your school or church.
