What I liked

Great people around me and difficult job that really made me stretch.

What I wish was different

Very emotionally draining job and often felt alone and depressed.

Advice

You need to try it once to know if it’s for you or not. I grew a lot from it and would honestly recommend it to anyone who is willing to step up and do difficult things.

Door to door sales

May - August 2020 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

The skills I have learned from this job have helped me in all aspects of my life. It has changed my mindset and has set me up for success. My people skills, communication and negotiation skills have been immensely enhanced. The job is solely commission based pay. I made more money than I have ever made before. There is no cap on the amount you can earn, the harder you work the more you make. The managers of the sales team I worked for are very successful, and their daily training meetings put you in a position to succeed. We had opportunities to interact with and be directly trained by the CEO (Bob Neilson) and founder (Matt Flanders) of the company. There was a lot of fun involved with this job, a lot of prizes and tons of self improvement opportunities.

What I wish was different

Due to COVID we moved markets twice. We were supposed to be in Philadelphia, however we ended up in Charlotte, Raleigh, and Chattanooga Tennessee. I actually enjoyed seeing more markets and living in different area, but it was kinda in predictable.

Advice

If you want to do well you have to put in the effort. All the resources to excel are available in this job, make sure to take advantage of all the training. Make sure you are fully committed to have success in your life. This job requires dedication, hard work ethic, and commitment to goals.

Area Sales Manager Intern

May 2018 - July 2019 • Orem, UT

What I liked

I loved the ethic of hard work and integrity that is spread throughout the company.

What I wish was different

We traveled all around Utah, and sometimes the drive was long.

Advice

It's a great way to spend a summer when you want/need money to spend during the school semester. It's not for the lazy, faint of heart, or cheaters. It takes hard work, but the pay out is better than you'll see anywhere else that a college student can work for just 4 months and make over a normal years earnings.

Accounts Payable/Receivables Clerk

June - September 2019 • Orem, UT

What I liked

I enjoyed getting to see what goes on at the base level of the Accounts Payable and Receivables process. It allowed me to learn a lot about the fundamentals of business. The people there are phenomenal and are there is always work to do and skills to develop and learn.

What I wish was different

I wish it could have been more innovative. I felt like the process could have been so much faster and more efficient, but we were always so swamped that we did not have time to develop any automation processes that could have been implemented pretty easily with a little bit of extra time.

Advice

Never be afraid to ask questions. It is better to be right the first time than to think you have the process down and have to go back later and fix what you had already done. If there is any hint of uncertainty, ask.

Salesmen

May - August 2019 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

The team I worked with was phenomenal and the work pushed my talents to the limits.

What I wish was different

More training before I went out because the learning curve on the doors took a solid few weeks before I felt 100% comfortable talking to anyone on the doors.

Advice

This job is all about confidence, endurance, and will. It’s a marathon and not a sprint. Pay attention to the details of your pitch, your body language, develop people skills quick!

Door to door Salesman

April - July 2019 • Princeton, NJ

What I liked

I liked that it was a constant test to push myself and develop as a person. I didn’t get paid just for going to work and going through the motions, but I had to study and practice and be committed in order to make it worth while, and it was.

What I wish was different

I don’t have any complaints, it was an awesome experience, the guys were supportive and fun to be around. I was away from my fiancé the whole time, but it helped us grow and I’m grateful for that experience. We are married now and looking back on those times always makes us smile.

Advice

Summer sales has a bad reputation for various reasons, and I’m not going to lie, I was very skeptical and it took me a long time to finally get on board with it and I am so glad it did. It isn’t for everyone, but if you are someone who is a self starter, doesn’t mind hard work, and loves a challenge then this is a perfect fit for you. People get caught up about how much money you make, but at the end of the day, the personal growth is the biggest reward and if you focus on bettering yourself and helping those you work with the money will take care of itself. Money comes and goes, but who we are lasts forever.
