Harper Creek Community Schools is a K – 12 public school located in a suburban location just 5 minutes south of downtown Battle Creek and 30 minutes east of Kalamazoo. Our district boasts 2,726 students housed in three K-4 elementary buildings, a 5-8 middle school, and a 9-12 high school. The district also supports two Great Start Readiness Program classrooms.
All buildings are located within a 10 mile radius of central administration. Our elementary buildings use the Daily 5/Cafe′ as a foundation for reading instruction along with the Lucy Calkins model for writing. Project Based Learning is incorporated at all levels of instruction. The mathematics focus is a blend of traditional math and inquiry at all instructional levels.
Harper Creek Community Schools is committed to daily academic intervention opportunities as well as extension opportunities for K – 12 students, both of which are conducted during the school day. Additional academic support is provided before and after school at the various buildings on building set schedules. Integration of technology and 21st learning skills are a focus at both the building and district levels. In regards to extracurricular activities, Harper Creek Community Schools has active vocal and instrumental music programs, a growing drama department, a very successful DECA program, and a full slate of athletic opportunities.
