HIBU

Digital Design Intern

May 2023 • King of Prussia, PA

What I liked

I loved being able to experience what it's like to work with a design team. I also got a taste of how the design process differs in a professional setting- how often changes are requested, being able to act at the drop of a hat, and following brand guidelines. My co-workers made the experience extremely enjoyable as well. When I was being interviewed for this position, I asked the hiring manager what had influenced their stay at Hibu. Her immediate answer was the community and company culture. I felt very welcomed, encouraged to ask questions, and inspired by their processes.

What I wish was different

I wish there would have been more in-person days. I was told it would be a hybrid position, going to KOP 1-2 times a week. However, right as I got hired, they were looking for a new office to lease. It would have also been nice to have been included in more of my boss' work when she wasn't too busy. She worked on the company website and the design that goes into that, which is essentially what I want to do.

Advice

If it's your freshman or sophomore year and you don't know exactly what you want to do yet, apply to all internships that pertain to the career paths you're considering. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do initially, but I had an idea of a few fields that interested me. I applied to graphic design, digital marketing, UX/UI, digital design, and web design internships. Not only did this give me an array of options to choose from and the opportunity to weed out my least favorite positions, but all those interviews were experience.
