Brand Representative

August - September 2018 • Newark, CA

What I liked

The staff at this particular location consisted of very friendly, cooperative, and welcoming individuals. I liked how patient everyone was during my training and first few shifts, especially when I was having some initial difficulty with the register's many functions. Furthermore, I liked how everyone made a genuine effort to become friends rather than just clocking in and out without a word. I also really enjoyed helping and making conversation with daily customers, ultimately representing the brand with kindness and friendliness.

What I wish was different

I wish I'd applied for and gotten the job earlier into my summer so that I could've worked there for a longer time. However, I plan to return and work shifts there when I am back home during winter/spring/thanksgiving breaks.

Advice

To anyone who is about to start a similar job, I would like to say that all the nervousness and anxiety you may be feeling is completely normal and will eventually be alleviated through experience and learning. During my first shift at register, when I was responsible for the store's and the customer's money, I was inevitably a bit nervous, considering that this was my first retail experience. However, as time went on, I began to open up exponentially and learned how to talk to customers with ease while processing their purchase/return/etc. I can honestly say this experience has broadened my social scope and has given me a lot of confidence in general.
