Hologic

Global Supply Chain Finance Intern

May - August 2023 • Marlborough, MA

What I liked

I really liked this role. I got a lot of unique experience. The internship program was really well run and I got to meet 20+ other interns which was cool. Each of us had our own boss and helped them with their every day tasks while also working on a final project that we presented in front of senior leadership including the CFO which was cool exposure. Overall I feel like I gained a lot of valuable experience into what working a general finance job at a large company is like.

What I wish was different

The job was an hour away from Boston so there were many opportunities to bond with coworkers outside of the office.

Advice

Be vocal with your boss about projects you are interested in - they want you to have the best experience possible. Additionally reach out and meet as many people as possible while you are there to grow your network.

Design Assurance Engineer Intern

What I liked

I liked the company’s mission, the abundant programming for intern career development, opportunity to network with company leadership, and the structure of my project and the program as a whole.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more hands on experience. However, that was not really applicable to my role.

Advice

Talk to as many people as possible!

Virology Marketing Intern

May - August 2019 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

I never felt like Hologic was giving me projects that were simple or wouldn't make an impact to the company. They immediately trusted my abilities and wanted me to contribute to the work environment. Because the work I was doing was seen as an attribute to the company, they allowed me to conduct research with KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders) out of country.

What I wish was different

I worked in virology marketing which is also the global health department because of our international HIV test accessibility efforts. While this was directly related to my interests, it also meant that most of my colleagues were out on business trips. Sometimes I wouldn't see my boss for two weeks at a time, so it was hard to get more tasks when I completed everything handed to me.

Advice

Work very hard and speak up. This is truly a job where your opinions matter even as an intern. However, there may be downtime so bring a book and never hesitate to ask people for a meeting to learn about their job and their division. It's a very community-based environment and networking is key!

Marketing Intern

May 2019 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

I was in an internship program, so it was awesome being able to have formalized events such as networking with C-suite executives, presenting in front of directors, and having lunch with cross-functional teams. I learned a lot about how a big business ran.

What I wish was different

Advice

Be ready to do a lot of busy work for people since you are at the bottom.

Design assurance intern

June - August 2019 • Marlborough, MA

What I liked

Everyone at the company was very welcoming and I felt like I was actually doing work that was meaningful to the company.

What I wish was different

I wish that my experience was more hands on and interactive with the actual product.

Advice

Even though I realized that I don’t want to go into quality I think that having the year in quality helped me to understand that side of the product and will be helpful in the future.

Sustaining Engineering Co-op

January - June 2017 • Marlborough, MA

What I liked

The ability to work for 6 months with the same company in the same job. My manager and the people that I worked with on my team taught me a lot about engineering and working in a large company. The other Coops that I worked with became good friends.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have reached out to more people within the company and not just my team. I wish I had taken on more work and tried to learn some different skills.

Advice

Ask a lot of good, quality questions and try and learn as much as you can. Work experience and the knowledge you gain from it are very valuable when it comes to finding a job after college.

Downstream Marketing Intern

June - August 2017 • Marlborough, MA

What I liked

My experience at Hologic helped me learn more about what I liked to do, as well as pushed me to think on my feet and test my skills. At my time there, my team encouraged me to create my own path for my two projects. I did this by talking with many employees (managers of all different departments). Their advice shaped my path for my project and brought out the best in my abilities. Furthermore, the culture at Hologic is one that is passionate and friendly. The company has its goals and people want to work towards that: Improving women's health. In the end, I felt that my work, although small, impacted individuals who are on the receiving end of Hologic products.

What I wish was different

I don't think that much needs to be different about my experience. I think that the company did a good job settling the interns in and I felt a part of my team.

Advice

I would encourage interns to interact with team members and try to learn from them as much as possible. In additions, interact with other interns as they also are a big part in having a successful and great internship experience.
