What I liked

What I liked about volunteering at House of Ruth was the knowledge and skills I learned to better my lifestyle and also be able to help others by advocating healthy relationships. In addition I also enjoyed the friendships I developed with some of the other people volunteering.

What I wish was different

What I wished would have been different is I would have liked to volunteer at a domestic violence shelter since I was once in one. I believe that giving back to those places in that hold a special place in your heart is important in order to enrich the quality of your life.

Advice

What I would share about this experience is the information learned along the way to better equip the men and women in our society. For example we live in a Rape Culture Society. It is important to ask for consent before sex. Do not just assume the other party wants sex too. Always wait for the yes response and even when in a relationship, if you choose not to have sex with your partner, in a healthy relationship, this would be understood and respected.
