Hyundai Card/Capital

Global Commercial Corporate Finance Intern & Strategic Planning Intern

June - August 2017 • Seoul, South Korea

What I liked

LITERALLY THE BEST INTERNSHIP EVER. Hyundai in America is just a car company but they are like the Google of Korea. They do credit cards, life insurance, commercial, finance, etc. They even have Hyundai Department Stores, Super Concerts, and "Libraries" (music, cooking, travel, & design studios that are exclusive to Hyundai card holders). Best part is they pay for everything ranging from hotel to airfare to breakfast/lunch, and it sometimes feels like you're just on vacation and not actually working. Really great to put on your resume - global perspective, present in front of C-level suite, make a lot of connections, actually learn a LOT (I had to make financial models and do tons of excel but it depends on the department). They are also a multi-billion dollar company with tons of money to spend on the global interns so they take you out on tons of REALLY cool intern events (yacht day, laguna beach bungalow day, dave & buster's, pageant of the arts, cooking classes, etc.) The best part might be the friends you make though - everyone in my intern class was smart, funny, and loved to have fun. They do a really good job of making sure everyone who gets into the program is a good fit, professionally and socially. Everyone got along, and I miss them so much already!

What I wish was different

Korean part of the internship was not as challenging work-wise compared to the California half. Adjusting to work/life was also a new experience, though a positive one! Wish we had more to time to just explore Seoul/California in general!

Advice

Be yourself when you interview! They're looking for a fit both ways.

Global Data Intern

June - August 2017 • Seoul, South Korea

What I liked

Amazing experience abroad to experience an amazing culture and making new friends, exploring finance in an entirely different setting, most expenses paid for.

What I wish was different

The company's approach to the internship was a little unhealthy due to many interns competing for a full-time offer, but other than that it was excellent.

Advice

Have fun! The internship is meant to both expose interns to finance in Asia as well as expose them to a new culture and foreign country. Don't forget that the second part of the description is just as important as the first.
