Idaho Humane Society

Certified Veterinary Technician

September 2018 • Boise, ID

What I liked

the hands-on work with the animals, helping shelter patients, Giving them medical care, knowing that they can be adopted after we help them.

What I wish was different

Being able to give the animals more of a space to be highlighted. There is now a new building that will do this for us!

Advice

Keep your passion and remember why you are there.

Facility technician and Foster Coordinator

July 2010 • Boise, ID

What I liked

Flexible scheduling, meaningful work, good coworkers and immediate supervisors

What I wish was different

Very stressful environment, heartbreaking job at times, like many nonprofits they are not able to offer many raises. Not a long term job prospect if you go into an entry level position due to extreme stress and low pay.

Advice

It's a hard job; while you do get to interact with, walk and play with animals, it's not all fun and games at all. You see serious, heartbreaking things every day. You see the best and the worst of people. They will work around your school schedule as much as possible but some positions can offer very little wiggle room.
