Idaho STEM Action Center

STEM Transition Trainee

May - July 2019 • Idaho State University, ID

What I liked

I researched in Dr. Jack Rose's lab in the Biology Department of Idaho State University alongside his graduate student. It was such an amazing experience to be able to participate in research before I even hit my first semester of college. I made so many friends and useful connections. At the INBRE research conference, I placed first in Student's Choice Trainee.

What I wish was different

I do not think I wish anything had been different. There were bumps, but it was all part of the learning process. It was so amazing, and I hope to one day do it again.

Advice

Take the opportunities that are presented. I was hesitant because this internship required me to move 4 hours from home right after I graduated. It was intimidating and stressful, but I don't wish I had changed anything. I was presented this opportunity by a high school teacher and mentor of mine, and I took the leap and took the chance. I was accepted into the program and don't regret a thing.
