Technical Manufacturing Intern

May - August 2019 • Westbrook, ME

What I liked

I really enjoyed how the internship wasn't about doing others' side work. The internship assigned us project to work on that impacted our department. I also loved that the interviews were behavioral, since they really emphasized that you are meant to learn AT internships, not get an internship because you know everything already.

Advice

Mentors and other workers are there to help you understand how to do something and explain the science behind it if they can, so don't worry about not understanding it fully at first. The people are so kind and willing to sit down with you and draw figures to help you understand according to your learning style.

What I wish was different

Biochemistry/Chemistry R&D Intern

May - August 2019 • Westbrook, ME

What I liked

Highly structured R&D style internship. Each intern has their own individual research question they are trying to solve and work with a mentor to develop a project. Program begins with a poster symposium and ends with a research presentation. Regular meetings with other interns to practice talking about the research. Lots of fun intern activities as well.

What I wish was different

Wish there had been a bit more shadowing of the full time employees of the company and/or opportunities to see other departments within R&D.

Advice

Apply early and fill out as many aspects of the application as you can even if they are optional. Ask lots of questions during the internship! If you get an interview, rank which projects sound the most interesting to you.

What I wish was different

Technical Manufacturing Intern

May - August 2019 • Westbrook, ME

What I liked

Community was fun and engaging. Everyone was there to help you. Got a lot of hands-on experience at industrial level. Multiple presentations were given so it was a good opportunity to become more comfortable with public speaking/presenting.

What I wish was different

Interns worked on one project. We were exposed to several other intern projects through weekly meetings, however, it would have been interesting/helpful to be able to work on other projects to get more experience. You did become very knowledgeable about your project though, so it had its positives and negatives.

Advice

Extroverts would work well in the technical manufacturing department. If you're introverted, a more R&D position may work better for you. Overall, it was a great internship, and I would highly recommend.
