Absolutely loved my internship, got exposed to a variety of projects in communications, community engagement, and corporate philanthropy. Super friendly colleagues and team, always ready to answer questions and very supportive. Great hybrid flexibility.

What I wish was different

Nothing I can think of- maybe more interaction with other interns.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask for more work. Consider continuing part-time through the semester if possible.

Computer Operator

June - August 2019 • Roseville, MN

What I liked

The work environment was friendly and the people there were always willing to help if you needed it.

What I wish was different

A lot of the job is waiting for something to happen, so you have a lot of free time.

Advice

Operators are supposed to be on duty 24 hours, so your shifts will be 12 hours long, so you'll either have to wake up very early, or stay up very late.

Sales and Business Development

May - September 2018 • Raleigh, NC

What I liked

IGT is the technology partner for the North Carolina Education Lottery and my objective was to recruit new retailers, specifically bars and restaraunts to install the lottery’s new draw game called Carolina Keno. I enjoyed having the freedom to make my own schedule and enjoyed the door-to-door aspect of going into bars and restaraunts explaining the benefits of Carolina Keno and how it can boost the overall business of their establishment.

What I wish was different

Honestly, there is nothing bad I can say about this job. The only thing is, that I was frustrated with the lack of online and media advertising from the lottery. If the bar/restaraunt owner was not from the North East where Keno/Quick Draw is a staple in social establishments, they had never heard of it and had a stigma about lottery.

Advice

One piece of advice from this job and for any sales type job is to remain level headed so to speak. By this I mean that you are going to hear many “No’s” and get the occasional angry person but you can’t let it get to you on a personal level. Additionally, with sales you can’t always expect to make that sale on the first visit, sales is also about relationship building and building trust with your future client. People do business with those they like and can trust!
