Software Developer Intern

What I liked

The work atmosphere encouraged interaction, collaboration, and conversation. Everyone was very supportive, friendly, and understanding of small errands that needed to be done in the middle of the workday. People with kids were able to pick them up or drop them off or take them to an activity very easily in the middle of the day if it didn't conflict with meetings, other work, etc. There was opportunity for frequent interaction with the CEO and very little division between people in regards to roles.

What I wish was different

A better communication between the Walla Walla and Seattle offices (which is a difficult challenge to solve), a more robust training/onboarding for interns, and for the supplies in the Walla Walla office to be given as much priority as the Seattle office.

Advice

Be proactive in the first 2 weeks to ask as many questions as possible, learn as much as possible, and TAKE NOTES in a notebook. You may not ever look at them but it's useful to remember things and in the event that you do need them they are there. If you don't have a project, ask for one. If you don't get a response within a certain time frame, then follow-up. If you don't hear a response after this, create your own and just learn what you need to in order to get it done.
