Research Analyst Intern

May - August 2019 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

The people I worked with and the atmosphere at Instructure are great!

What I wish was different

The position I held didn't end up pertaining much to what I am hoping to do in the future, so that was unfortunate, but it was still a good experience.

Advice

If the position isn't what you want to do in the future, talk to other people in the company in positions you may be interested in to see if it's something you'd like to pursue after the internship. Everyone is very nice and willing to talk with you about what they do, so take advantage of that!

Software Developer Intern

April - July 2018 • Cottonwood Heights, UT

What I liked

I learned so much from my experience. Learning how to be a part of a business and work with a team to produce a product was incredible. I enjoyed having my own work to do and the ability to do it the way that I wanted.

What I wish was different

I felt moderately limited because the code review process where I worked was very strict. I wish I was able to experiment more and be on a little longer leash. It also took awhile for me to get the project that I was working on for my internship, which caused me to be treading water.

Advice

For me it was very hard to open up and allow myself to recognize where I had limitations, which limited my progress and learning. Be willing to take a step back and see where you are struggling or don't understand. This will help direct your work, and allow other, more experienced, co-workers to give you advice.
