Administrative Intern - Strategy

June 2022 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

I have had a fantastic experience working with the professionals at INTEGRIS Health. As an intern, I have been able to be involved in a variety of projections including departments such as finance, IT, operations and strategy. Although, there has been a steep learning curve the challenge has been thrilling and there are numerous resources available to facilitate your success. If you're interested in learning more about healthcare as a whole, choosing INTEGRIS Health will not disappoint given you are willing to work hard. In addition to everything that was previously stated, I would mention that the caregivers at INTEGRIS Health are some of the most passionate and genuine people I have met within the healthcare industry.

What I wish was different

Occasionally, senior leadership can be hard to contact but there are different avenues to get the answers you're needing.

Advice

Come to your first day with an open mind and an eagerness to learn! You will be thrown right into the mix and which can be good and bad. If you're prepared to be proactive and hit the ground running you will learn an exceptional amount about both the clinical and administrative side of healthcare!

information technology

June - August 2022 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

INTEGRIS has a very nice work environment. Leaders are very helpful, and would take the time to give guidance to interns. Also, I was part of many important projects at the system's level, which gave me a lot of exposure, and I got hands-on experience in the word of healthcare. It is not the type of internship where you only assist leaders, but also have the chance to lead yourself, and start the initiative or idea. Great learning opportunity from great leaders across the organization.

What I wish was different

Nothing

Advice

A good advice would be to do as many initiatives as you can. It's a great learning opportunity, and I would say get involved as much as possible, and be the one to initiate any work that would interest you.

Continuous improvement

June 2022 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

INTEGRIS really makes an effort to stay competitive and ahead with innovative thinking and talent present on all levels in every department. There is initiative from all teams to stay with the current agenda of the entire health system and from what I have seen and experienced, push-back on changes to make the system work better and more efficiently is only temporary.

Advice

Housing is difficult to find so start early.

Hospital Operations Intern

June 2022 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

Everyone was extremely welcoming and helpful. The hospital team went out of their way to make sure I was getting the full experience and provide recommendations. I had a hall pass to do essentially whatever I wanted, whether it was to watch a robotic surgery, learn about pharmacoeconomics, do a deep dive into quality review or interview a chief executive. It was truly fascinating to discover all the facets of a large healthcare organization.

What I wish was different

I think having a project lined up for me to work on once I started would have been helpful. It took a long time to get things going due to vacations and fiscal year end. Once people were available, I was over halfway done with my internship.

Advice

I asked everyone I spoke to who they thought I should meet with. Don't be afraid to reach out to anyone who interests you. The worst they could say is no!

Cardiac Monitor Technician

March - November 2019 • Yukon, OK

What I liked

I liked the ability to work 12 hours shifts and being apart of a team to bring better health to patients.

What I wish was different

I wish we got treated better by other colleagues (ie. Doctors and nurses), better pay for our duties, and not being under video feed 24/7. Other hospitals includes other Integris builds don't video monitor.

Advice

Respect the people doing to backend work. We are just trying to make sure everyone is alive and well.
