The environment was extremely welcoming, professional, and educational. All the people I worked with were very invested in my growth as a professional and were willing to teach me how to perform the duties of a live sound engineer.
What I wish was different
The Mentor Matrix program utilized by Ironman did seem to become less relevant as the semester went on, with the time spent at the internship dependent more on what events were available each week.
Advice
Be willing to learn more about each service the company offers instead of just sound, such as video or lighting. Having an understanding of either of these will give you a much wider skillset that will make you more valuable as a professional.

What I liked
I would say that I very much liked how easy it was for me to fit into the company's workflow, and how friendly and open every employee is. It seems that that's Ironman's golden ticket: they hire and work with those that can get along well with others and have a undying devotion to their craft.

Advice
When it comes to getting your hours in, know that the first few winter months (January-February) are typically slow around the shop and there aren't many events happening. Business begins ramping up around March and from there on, its nonstop work!

What I liked
I liked the fair amount of flexibility with the scheduling, where you could choose the events that you could shadow on/or help with. The ability to dabble in other disciplines and practice them is also a plus.
What I wish was different
The inconsistent hours can make it hard to have a regular schedule. There will be periods of time where there are almost no events going on, and then others when you will be doing a number of events throughout the week (particularly on the weekend).
Advice
Be flexible in your abilities, because even the full-time techs are expected to wear a number of hats at times.
