Visual Merchandiser

June 2019 • Lynnfield, MA

What I liked

I love the flexibility of the job and really being able to incorporate everything I’ve learned from studying Marketing in with this position. Learning something new every time I come in to work is also a bonus.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had a bit more say in how things are to look in the store (e.g. display tables, mannequins, etc.). Although, I do have the ability to improvise because since we are a smaller store, we do not have a lot of the things corporate is calling for to include in displays. I would love to eventually help out J.Crew’s Merchandising team at their corporate offices in New York down the line!

Advice

Well, I did not think I had a chance of being hired due to my previous experience levels but they greeted me with open arms and offered to help teach me along the way. So my advice would be to apply to any position you can because you never know; you may be the exact person that the company is looking for.

International and wholesale marketing intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I absolutely loved my internship and getting to work in such a fast-paced and hands-on industry. I had the opportunity to really own my work and connect with many different departments both within the company and with external partners. We were also given service opportunities, networking and learning events, and in-store experience that was so valuable in the retail landscape!

What I wish was different

Advice

Maintain communication with everyone you meet. Remember people’s names and what they do so you can connect on a deeper level. It is also so important to always put in extra effort and show you really care. The more you give and the more you show you are willing to do, the more you will be trusted with and the more you will learn. Internships can be extremely valuable if you take advantage of each and every learning opportunity with a positive attitude.
