Construction Project Manager Intern

May - August 2021 • Edison, NJ

What I liked

Being in a male dominant profession, I felt very comfortable at this company being one of the very few women employed. My project management team did their best to introduce me to the construction world in the short time frame and thoroughly explain what's going on out in the field.

What I wish was different

Nothing really

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. I started as a quiet girl who would be staring at the computer screen and by the end of the week, I found myself engaging to many people not only in the office, but also on my jobsite. That could only happen after putting yourself out on the field and communicating with people around you on the job.

Project Engineer Intern

May - August 2018 • Bayonne, NJ

What I liked

They gave me hands on experience. I was able to do many engineering designs and calculations that applied to the job I was on. I learned a lot from the people I was working with and it was an added benefit that the Project Engineer and Project Manager both went to NJIT.

Advice

If I were to offer advice for a heavy highway construction internship it would be to get involved and ask questions. There is a lot that goes on through a day to day in construction so it can be confusing. By asking questions you really get an understanding of how some of the project develops.
